Love this - I ALWAYS take the stairs at work. Even when colleagues leave a meeting for the lift I go stairs and sometimes they follow. Such great advice. So simple. I am interested in this topic and so just subscribed.

Thank you for subscribing! I've worked with people who thought I was crazy for always taking the stairs--my office was on the 6th floor. It's an easy way to get more movement into an otherwise pretty sedentary desk job. Now that I work at home, I make a point to get up at least once an hour and walk up and down the stairs in my house.

I try to do it with a weighted backpack at home when I remember for extra gains

I guess I am the opposite. I always preferred to take the stairs and hate to take the elevator. I still don't get it why people walk first to the elevator - unless you need to go to the 10th floor or more. The most absurd thing is when people take the elevator to their gym/fitness studio and then get there on a stepper machine...

That's so true about the gym! I'm a stair taker myself.

I'm not crazy about climbing stairs, just because. But what I absolutely love doing is climbing and hiking in elevation. I wish I lived near mountains, the Sierra Nevada or the Wasatch in Utah; hiking up and down really allows me to build strength, endurance, and is increasing my balance exponentially.

Once I get back in the flatlands I suppose I'll have to take up the stair master once again. It is NOT a fun way to workout, but certainly effective. Nice read!

Stairs help with the mountain climbs. I'm in the Blue Ridge Mountains presently, and I love those hikes with significant elevation increases! Taking the stairs helps.

I'll take your word for it. My glutes and IT Band scream on the stair master. I never feel a thing while actually out climbing and hiking. I don't know how to think about that.
