I used to take walking for granted until this year. After being diagnosed with osteoporosis I had to put it back into my workout mix for weight bearing exercise. That being said, I try and do 15 minutes after each meal (two-fold advantage, one being metabolic - regulates blood sugar, and the other helps digestion).

I hike in the woods a couple times a week for 'forest bathing' - no phone or distractions, just simply taking in nature. It helps with mood, and sometimes boosts my creativity. Good article, Daria.

Patti you are a rock star! You’re doing it the right way. And forest bathing is one of my favorite things to do. There’s nothing else that brings me calm and peace like walking in the woods.

Haha, thanks, Daria. Do you know what brings me peace and inner calm like no other? Swimming slowly focusing solely on breath in an outdoor lap pool at dusk or dawn, finishing up with interval submerging to the bottom, holding my breath, and sitting down there for as long as I can. My entire nervous center recalibrates itself after doing so. Glorious.

I swam for years. It does allow a singular focus like nothing else--particularly if you can swim in a pool that isn't crowded. I only stopped swimming because I don't have a pool near me. I miss it!

I rarely do it now. I don't have a pool close by. But since it came up, I'll do the 9-mile drive and do so today!!
